Finding a mobile phone service anywhere these days is rather trying, what with all the different rates, structures,  fees, and other problems that we encounter when searching for mobile phone plans. There are a lot of service providers out there, especially in the United Kingdom, all with different rates and plans to suit various needs. Some services focus on family plans, some on individual or they offer a lot of extra features. Which mobile phone service you pick depends on what your own needs are.

O2 is one of the better mobile phone networks. Not only does it offer  basic phone services to call virtually anywhere anytime within the UK, it also gives text messaging capabilities, a broadband Internet connection and phone warranty. Just in case your phone gets lost, they can help you replace it at little to no cost to you. O2 also has corporate plans for businesses.

Orange ;. It offers many of the same services, like broadband, texting capability and warranty, but also allows you to keep up with the news. Orange has contests on occasion to give away promotional prizes like free phones or service. Orange has broadband coverage in almost any area, dependent on weather conditions and suchlike. Orange is a very reliable mobile network in the United Kingdom.

T-Mobile ; T-Mobile is not only in the United Kingdom, but all over the world. T-Mobile in the United Kingdom has a few advantages over the other phones – for one thing it has camera phone models. In addition to normal texting, users can text images to one another as well, so if you snap a photo, you can instantly show it to friends. T-Mobile offers full wireless Internet support, 24/7 customer service and a wide range of coverage, so there’s very little chance for a missed call because of no signal.

Vodaphone; is another popular brand in the UK. It offers camera, wireless, Bluetooth capability, and an MP3 player. The payment plans are flexible, depending on whether you’re a single person, a family seeking a phone network or a corporation. Also, Vodaphone offers a pay-as-you-go plan, meaning you can just purchase additional minutes whenever you need them instead of being restricted to a set price each month. Vodaphone users can opt for a wireless broadband connection for their computers too, making Vodaphone one of the few services to go this route.

3 ; offers many of the same services Vodaphone does, as well as unlimited voicemail for en extra fee of 20 pounds. The wireless broadband service can be accessed from anywhere, and you get unlimited text messages for 25 pounds more a month. If you recruit one of your friends to join 3’s network, you can get a free 45 pounds worth of credit upon activation of their phone. Full warranty, customer support and online support round out 3’s services to make them a good mobile company to work with.

Nokia is another mobile phone company that deals all over the world; Nokia is the pioneer of many services that most people take for granted on their mobiles – text messaging, voicemail and some games. Nokia offers broadband wireless, and their phones are generally quite light and portable. They have a new Razr model coming out soon as well

Blackberry : phones are very light and easy to carry around. They’re as much like a computer as you’ll likely find in a mobile phone – Bluetooth capability, a USB Flash drive, and all the usual features of mobile phones are included. Blackberry phones seem to be quite popular, mainly because of all the technological capability they have. Blackberry phones are well-suited for businesspeople or just everyday consumers – data can be transferred from the phone to the USB device.

HTC ; makes other phones that operate as both a mobile phone and a computer – the screen is a larger version than many mobile phones, and is backlit with enough light to clearly see what’s being typed. Most of HTS’s phones have button configurations that are similar (if a very small version of) to a computer keyboard. This makes texting and browsing the Web much easier than having to operate with a traditional phone button layout.

Samsung is another popular mobile provider; as Samsung are well-known for providing other types of electronics. Samsung phones are very sturdy and reliable – they can take a lot of damage, so you don’t have to worry about accidentally breaking your phone. Most Samsung phones currently are equipped with high-speed wireless capability, but unfortunately lack the ability of Blackberry phones to store USB data. They have one memory slot, but most of their memory is internal.

Motorola; Their phones aren’t as heavy on emphasizing Internet and wireless capability – these phones are more toward music fans. Motorola has created a new service line of phones that basically act as fully functioning iPods. Music can be moved directly from the iPod to the phone and vice versa. The phones have text messaging capability and all the other standard features that mobile phone companies in the UK offer today.

If you want music, Motorola or Nokia’s likely your best bet. For wireless capability and flexibility, Blackberry or Vodaphone’s likely who you’ll want to choose. The rates on international calling vary as well for all providers – depending on the other features your mobile phone has and how long you talk/how frequently you call. You’ll generally be given a set amount of minutes to work with, and more of them are used up than normal if you call internationally. Telecommunications is an industry that’s just starting to really get a foothold in the UK, but there are already plenty of options to choose from when selecting a mobile phone service provider.
